The instructions on this page provide general installation and handling information for Legacy memory modules. These instructions are intended to be used in conjunction with your model specific owner's manual.

Always refer to your model-specific owner's manual instructions before intalling new memory modules. Some computer manufacturers may void their warranty if the system is opened and upgraded by the end user. Please consult your system manfacturer for your warranty policy. Protect your memory module from ESD, by storing components in the Antistatic packaging until use.

Rules to keep in mind when installing memory modules

  1. Turn off the computer's power. But make sure that the AC power cord is still plugged into the outlet (for grounding purposes).
  2. Follow your computer's manual for removing the outer case housing.
  3. Ground yourself by touching any of the "unpainted" metal surfaces of your computer's frame. (This will remove any static electricity from your body or clothing.)
  4. Locate your computer's memory expansion slots.
  5. Insert your memory upgrade module(s) according to the manufacturer of your computer, or by using the corresponding illustrations on this page. Please note how the modules are keyed to the socket. This ensures that the module can be plugged in only one way.
  6. Once the module(s) has been Installed, the computer's cover can be replaced. The Install is now complete. Follow the instructions in your owner's manual, which covers how to allow your machine to recognize your new RAM.
